[00:00:30] Hello everyone, welcome back to the latest episode of the In The Flat Podcast. I'm your host Tony Kill, joined as always by Jordan and Jess.
[00:00:37] So I think we jinxed this past week. We said it was going to be a pretty boring, ugly week. It was ugly, but it was definitely not boring.
[00:00:47] There was upsets all over the world. I don't know how many teams in a 25 loss. I don't know if you guys remember the exact number, but I know it was like 5 in the top 12 or something like that loss.
[00:00:58] Seven teams? Seven teams, yeah. So it was a crazy amount. It was just some shocking results. So that's where we're going to start.
[00:01:05] Let's start with the shocking result of them all. The number one team in the country, Alabama, lost at Vanderbilt.
[00:01:11] And it wasn't just like a fluke victory for Vanderbilt. Vanderbilt owned the line of scrimmage against Alabama, which I never fought in my life.
[00:01:20] I would say those words, but they did. They actually held the ball for 42 minutes.
[00:01:25] They had, I love their quarterback, Diego Pavia, that came from New Mexico.
[00:01:31] I think state, could be New Mexico, but I think it's New Mexico State.
[00:01:35] You know, and really, despite the talent that Alabama has, they just kept having answers.
[00:01:39] Every time Alabama would try to claw their way back, they would throw it over a crazy play.
[00:01:43] Like, I don't know if you guys saw that fourth and one play where they, you know, they faked the run and threw it down the field for a touchdown.
[00:01:49] I mean, that was kind of a backbreaker there for Alabama.
[00:01:53] And then they just kept the momentum going.
[00:01:54] But this is Vanderbilt's victory marked its first win over a top five team ever.
[00:02:00] Obviously, the fans celebrated storming the field, taking the goalposts down to the river three miles away.
[00:02:06] So crazy times there in Vanderbilt.
[00:02:08] So what do we think of this victory?
[00:02:10] What does it mean for Vanderbilt?
[00:02:11] What does it mean for Alabama?
[00:02:12] We'll start with you, Jess.
[00:02:14] So, I mean, I don't think this, it's a great win for Vanderbilt.
[00:02:18] I don't think this is going to have some crazy season long implications behind it or like this is...
[00:02:26] They have had some recruiting wins.
[00:02:27] They have had some recruiting wins.
[00:02:29] But at the very least in terms of this season, I mean, maybe this spurs them on to a better bowl.
[00:02:35] But I think this is something we didn't really talk about it that much last week.
[00:02:40] But in that crazy game against Georgia, Alabama's secondary wasn't that great, especially in the second half.
[00:02:50] Obviously, that's where they had most of their success.
[00:02:52] But Georgia hadn't been taking many deep shots all season long going into that game.
[00:02:58] And I think they had like a record for that, especially in this season.
[00:03:04] They took so many deep shots.
[00:03:06] They were there.
[00:03:07] Some receivers just dropped them.
[00:03:09] Some back just missed.
[00:03:10] But like the opportunities were there.
[00:03:12] And I mean, we saw it in that.
[00:03:14] What was it?
[00:03:15] I think it was the fourth down play.
[00:03:16] You said it was.
[00:03:17] Yeah, it was like 30 or 30, 40 yard.
[00:03:19] He threw it.
[00:03:19] The guy was wide open and on the money.
[00:03:22] Like Alabama has a lot of inexperienced players.
[00:03:27] I mean, on both sides of the ball.
[00:03:28] I mean, you know, as that hasn't been mentioned enough, Ryan Williams is 17.
[00:03:34] The corner who made that game ceiling interception had been targeted earlier at game ceiling interception against Georgia.
[00:03:41] I think he's a true freshman.
[00:03:44] So teams have opportunities against Bama to throw the ball on them.
[00:03:50] But it's been masked a little bit because I mean, Alabama's Alabama.
[00:03:55] They're going to blow most teams out.
[00:03:57] But in these kinds of games, it almost bit them against Georgia and it did full on bite them against Vanderbilt here.
[00:04:04] So Alabama, I still think is going to be a playoff team.
[00:04:10] We're going to talk a bit about it, I imagine.
[00:04:12] But Tennessee, you know, teams like that, like those top dogs in the SEC are still all vying for the playoffs.
[00:04:17] I just don't know how many can now afford a second loss.
[00:04:21] Yeah, it's interesting is I do wonder now if the playoff is going to be like a bunch of two lost teams in the playoffs this year.
[00:04:29] So Jordan over over to you on this on this game here on, you know, this victory, you know, for Vanderbilt, Alabama,
[00:04:37] I read something that it looks like Alabama is playing like they're an old Big 12 team with a lot of offense and they're a little more of a softer defense.
[00:04:45] Do you agree with that?
[00:04:46] No, I definitely agree.
[00:04:47] I feel like Vanderbilt punched Alabama in the mouth the whole game, every, every part of the game.
[00:04:55] They played like an Alabama team you would, you would expect.
[00:05:01] Dale Millro didn't play up to what you would expect him to play, especially against a Vanderbilt where, you know, they were what 14 point favorites.
[00:05:12] I think it's the first time a number one top, their number one team lost being that high of a favorite in the game.
[00:05:22] So just all around, Alabama just didn't look cohesive. Their whole team, I forgot his name, their captain on defense that got really angry.
[00:05:34] It just, it looks like the team is, you know, there's so much, I feel like there's so much riding on Alabama right now.
[00:05:41] And it showed in this game that they're not the Nick Saban, Alabama that we've seen.
[00:05:49] They're a different team, especially offensively.
[00:05:52] They don't run the ball nearly enough.
[00:05:56] They had 82 yards this game.
[00:05:58] They don't control the game.
[00:06:02] You know, Vanderbilt had 42 minutes of possession in this game.
[00:06:08] It just looks like Alabama's little discombobulated quarterback didn't play well this game.
[00:06:15] Vanderbilt took advantage of all the weaknesses we saw second half of the Georgia game and early on in the season.
[00:06:24] So big win for Vanderbilt.
[00:06:26] I still think Alabama has a chance just with that win over Georgia, but huge win for Vanderbilt.
[00:06:33] I feel like their team's a little on the up and up, looking better, not that bottom, you know, half or bottom part of, you know, that SEC.
[00:06:43] They can compete with anyone.
[00:06:45] They showed it this whole year.
[00:06:46] So big win.
[00:06:48] Sounds good.
[00:06:50] Yeah, no, I agree.
[00:06:51] I think this is, I think it's a big game changer for Vanderbilt.
[00:06:54] Like you said, probably not this year, just, but like, I do feel like with some of the recruits they have coming in,
[00:06:58] people are going to start buying into Clark Lee.
[00:07:00] I really like Clark Lee when they're in our name.
[00:07:02] He's a really good defensive mind.
[00:07:04] I like that, who they brought in on the transfer portal for the offensive side to bring that up to speed with what the defense does.
[00:07:10] So good win there.
[00:07:11] I am concerned about Alabama.
[00:07:13] They, they was, you know, the last part, last couple of years of Nittick Saban era, they had, they were really undisciplined.
[00:07:19] A lot of errors, a lot of penalties, didn't play as well as they could.
[00:07:24] And now it kind of continues to transition as they go to a new coach.
[00:07:27] And it hasn't gotten better.
[00:07:28] It seems like it's gotten worse.
[00:07:30] And they're not as good defensively.
[00:07:31] You're right.
[00:07:32] They don't run the ball as much as they used to.
[00:07:35] It's a different Alabama team.
[00:07:36] Not that they come back and they can destroy South Carolina next week.
[00:07:39] Vanderbilt can go back and lose to whoever you're going to play next week.
[00:07:43] But I mean, if the back of your head, if you're an Alabama fan, you got to worry.
[00:07:47] This is, this is going to be something that can bite you later on.
[00:07:50] Because if you lose one more game, you're really in danger here and making the playoffs.
[00:07:53] So something we'll have to keep an eye on.
[00:07:56] All right.
[00:07:56] Next up, we'll keep in the SEC, Arkansas, Tennessee.
[00:07:59] I don't know if this is a huge, huge upset, but Arkansas came in and won 19 to 14.
[00:08:05] This was after their, their quarterback, Jalen Green, I don't know if you guys saw, got like a really kind of nasty hit from the Tennessee team and got knocked out of this game.
[00:08:14] I don't know how he is or if he's going to be out for the season or if it's just out for that game.
[00:08:19] But they really slowed their offensive momentum down, but they, their defense stepped up and they're able to hold off Tennessee.
[00:08:26] Niko definitely played like a, like a freshman in this game, getting his first year of starting.
[00:08:32] If you saw, you know, this is, he, instead of throwing it up at the end of the game,
[00:08:36] he just ran out of bounds on the last play of the game, giving him no chance to try to win.
[00:08:41] And so that's kind of what you have to deal with. And, you know, I think we felt like they were, you know, holding off on the gas when they were playing against Oklahoma,
[00:08:48] but maybe their disoffense is not as good as we thought it was.
[00:08:52] And the defense is actually what's going to keep them in these games going forward.
[00:08:56] So we'll pass over to you, Jordan. What do you think of this game, Arkansas, Tennessee?
[00:09:01] I think it, you know, Niko is a freshman, you know, he's going to a hostile, hostile environment in Arkansas who always plays, you know,
[00:09:09] they're, they're a dark horse every year. It seems like it always seems like they're, you know, one step away from beating all every SEC team.
[00:09:21] Um, but yeah, it showed Niko just being that freshman.
[00:09:25] It's tough to go into an environment, an SEC school environment and play.
[00:09:31] And it, and it showed, like you said, Tony, he, that last play where he did not even try to throw it up and he ran out of bounds.
[00:09:38] And the, you know, the, the game was over. It, it just kind of shows his, you know, lack of experience and lack of control of the game, but a good game.
[00:09:48] All it was a really defensive game. And I think, you know, I don't speak for everybody, but I was a little, uh, confused when I saw 19 to 14 with Tennessee on the, you know, on the scoreboard.
[00:10:01] But, um, Arkansas just controlled the game throughout. They played better. Tennessee had 10 penalties in this game.
[00:10:08] So, I think the biggest thing is, you know, that freshman quarterback, um, Niko just not being, you know, he's, like I said, he's a freshman hard to play.
[00:10:19] So, but, uh, huge kind of a big loss for Tennessee, but a big win for Arkansas. So, yeah.
[00:10:26] All right. Jess, what are you, what are your thoughts on this one? Um, are you, um, worried about Tennessee or are, do we, do we go to,
[00:10:35] do we gush over him too much on the offensive side of the ball here early season against those, those terrible teams in Ohio that they played?
[00:10:43] Um, or do you think this Arkansas just had a good defensive plan here?
[00:10:47] I think it was a bit of both. I mean, like you said, Niko, I don't think he's a true freshman, but he is, he's young, he's inexperienced.
[00:10:58] You know, that really showed he's a bit rar than, uh, I think we had seen from him given the level of competition.
[00:11:09] Uh, I mean, he barely completed 50% of his passes, no touchdowns. Both those touchdowns came on the ground,
[00:11:16] which was an incredibly efficient running game, 22 for 140 and two touchdowns for Dylan Sampson.
[00:11:24] But all in all, I think this is going to be a team that is moving forward. We're going to see more reliant on their defense with James Pierce and all of those guys.
[00:11:34] But I think it'll be really interesting to see Tennessee when they have to play the likes of an Alabama, of a Georgia.
[00:11:46] Is that defense going to be able to handle that? Or are they just kind of what a lot of Tennessee teams, it feels like in recent years have been these teams where they have a few big names, some great NFL guys, but the team all around just isn't quite there.
[00:12:07] Are they going to be the Penn State of the SEC?
[00:12:10] Yeah.
[00:12:12] And I think that is still where they are. I was never super into them being in the top four. I didn't trust them that much. I thought they looked really good. I thought they looked like a playoff caliber team, but that they, I just wasn't sold that they were like the fourth best team in the country.
[00:12:33] And I think we saw a lot of that against Arkansas. They have a lot of holes. Nico needs to get better, but who knows? Maybe as the season goes on, he'll continue to improve and come the end of the season, he'll be able to help them steal a game in the playoffs if they make it there.
[00:12:49] But as of right now, I just don't think they're that caliber of team.
[00:12:56] All right. Keeping it in the SEC, Texas A&M and Missouri. So Texas A&M just beat the crap out of Missouri. They got out big and they never really let up on Missouri. They won 41 to 10. Really a standout performance for their defense. Their offense looked pretty good in this game.
[00:13:17] They got consistent pressure, sacking Brady, Cook multiple times. You know, I would say people are back on the Texas A&M bandwagon a bit where they were at the fringe top 25 team before where they're clearly in the top 15 for many people now in the various polls that I've seen.
[00:13:35] So interesting game here. Texas A&M technically has not lost the SEC game yet, so they're on top of the SEC.
[00:13:44] So, yeah, interesting SEC with all the crazy results here.
[00:13:48] So we'll start with you, Jess. What are you thinking of this Texas A&M-Missouri game?
[00:13:52] And are you worried about Missouri? Are you seeing that Texas A&M is trending up? So take it away.
[00:14:02] Well, the only thing that I got right about this game was that Weigman was going to start.
[00:14:10] We had a little bit, like I said he was last podcast and then you guys were like, no, it's the other guy who's been starting.
[00:14:18] I'm like, are you sure? I was right about that. That was the only thing I was remotely right about in this game.
[00:14:24] I think this was the most wrong I've been about a game all season.
[00:14:36] Missouri, I guess, was like, I mean, they barely beat Vanderbilt.
[00:14:41] They barely beat Boston College, but then they got out to this really high spot by beating up on Murray State and Buffalo.
[00:14:52] Yeah.
[00:14:54] So I feel like we're going to now see a lot of these SEC teams and maybe Ole Miss will fall into this category again.
[00:15:03] They're going to have something to prove this weekend.
[00:15:05] LSU could.
[00:15:08] Where they got these high rankings, they put up these big numbers, and they got all this love because they were SEC teams.
[00:15:16] And now we're going to see who's actually good and who really deserves that top spot.
[00:15:22] And chances are, right now it's not looking like Missouri really belonged in that conversation at all.
[00:15:28] I mean, at least when Ole Miss lost to Kentucky, it was a close one.
[00:15:32] You know, when Georgia lost to Bama, it was close.
[00:15:36] Bama losing to Vanderbilt, it was still a good game.
[00:15:39] I mean, this wasn't a good game past the first drive, essentially.
[00:15:44] And I thought Missouri was going to possibly run away with it.
[00:15:48] Brady Quick, he just hasn't seemed like the same person this year.
[00:15:53] He's really struggling to me to get that offensive going.
[00:15:57] I almost wonder, like, did they have someone behind him that you would replace him with at this point?
[00:16:03] He was great last year, but I felt like he's really taken a step back and regressed this year.
[00:16:09] Maybe there's different people around him, but with the wide receivers he has,
[00:16:13] they should be like a really explosive offense like they were last year, but they're just not doing that.
[00:16:17] So, Jordan, over to you.
[00:16:19] What do you think, what do you take in this game?
[00:16:22] It just looks like Missouri finally played an opponent that has a good defense.
[00:16:30] Missouri had over almost 200 rushing yards a game leading up to this game,
[00:16:37] and they barely had 68 total rushing yards this game.
[00:16:42] It shows what Texas A&M's off-defensive line, one of the best in the country still.
[00:16:49] It shows, like you said, Tony, I think Brady Cook is just not playing to what we've seen last year.
[00:16:56] But if you look at his stats from last year, some of the games that they had good defensive opponents,
[00:17:02] it showed in this game.
[00:17:06] But when you have Nate Knoll, who can easily rush for 150 yards a game,
[00:17:14] not rush for more than 10 carries and only 30 yards,
[00:17:21] but I feel like Texas A&M's defense really made this game a blowout.
[00:17:28] Texas A&M offense played really well,
[00:17:31] but you would think that Missouri's offense could keep up with it.
[00:17:37] But big comeback for Connor Wegman.
[00:17:41] You know, he had some ups and downs this season with his injury
[00:17:44] and just playing kind of down against Notre Dame to start the season.
[00:17:48] But big comeback.
[00:17:50] Texas A&M just took control of this game, passing, running defensively,
[00:17:55] and held on the whole game.
[00:17:57] And it showed a lot of flaws in Missouri's game
[00:18:01] and how slow they've started in a lot of ways.
[00:18:04] So big win for Texas A&M.
[00:18:06] And I think it's going to, like Tony said, I think there's going to be a lot.
[00:18:10] You know, I'm included.
[00:18:11] I'm on that Texas A&M little bandwagon right now.
[00:18:15] I think they look good and they keep pushing forward after that first game loss.
[00:18:20] Yeah, I mean, if they can figure the offense out,
[00:18:22] I think they get a little bit more like they did in this game
[00:18:26] from Connor Wegman and the team.
[00:18:27] That defense is, I still think that defensive line is the best in the country
[00:18:31] and not feel that they made Brady Cook feel that all game.
[00:18:35] So if they could do that to everybody else,
[00:18:38] if Vanderbilt can get a push against Alabama's of the world,
[00:18:41] then I know Texas A&M can if they're not motivated.
[00:18:45] So something interesting to watch in the SEC the rest of the way.
[00:18:48] All right, let's move over to the Big Ten a little bit.
[00:18:50] We have Washington and Michigan.
[00:18:53] So Washington won this one 27-17.
[00:18:57] Michigan went to its third quarterback, Jack Tunnel.
[00:19:00] And at first he got some offensive going,
[00:19:04] and people thought like, oh, yeah, this is going to fix all of Michigan's trouble.
[00:19:10] I thought my playoff picks were safe, but that all went pretty quickly,
[00:19:14] and he started struggling as well.
[00:19:16] They need a quarterback in the worst way.
[00:19:19] I don't know if they have one on the roster to fix this, but they need one.
[00:19:23] But Washington looked good, had a nice bounce back.
[00:19:25] They've been struggling all year, I feel like, Washington.
[00:19:27] And this is a nice win that they needed over Michigan.
[00:19:30] So start with you, Jordan.
[00:19:32] What are your thoughts here on this game, Michigan-Washington?
[00:19:36] I just feel like it's the same thing over and over and over again with Michigan.
[00:19:43] Quarterback.
[00:19:44] They can run the ball.
[00:19:46] They ran for 174 yards this game.
[00:19:48] They can easily run the ball.
[00:19:50] But if you don't have a quarterback that can throw the ball consistently
[00:19:54] and open up that run game consistently, that's the biggest thing.
[00:20:02] You know, they put their backup in.
[00:20:04] Tony, I know you.
[00:20:05] Tony was excited.
[00:20:07] Tony was like.
[00:20:08] I was.
[00:20:08] Just so you all know.
[00:20:10] Save my playoff by top 12.
[00:20:11] Just so you guys all know.
[00:20:13] I don't know if everyone has listened to the beginning of the season.
[00:20:16] Tony picked Michigan to beat Ohio State to end the year.
[00:20:20] And then to beat Ohio State again in the college football playoffs.
[00:20:25] Well, Michigan obviously didn't get that note from me that they were going to do that.
[00:20:30] So just so everybody knows.
[00:20:34] I think it still happened.
[00:20:35] But I just think the biggest thing is Michigan could win every game they played this year.
[00:20:41] Maybe not the Texas game.
[00:20:43] They Texas is Texas.
[00:20:45] If they had a quarterback.
[00:20:48] They they had the time of possession in this game.
[00:20:53] Yeah, it was super close.
[00:20:54] But the quarterback situation at Michigan needs to be figured out or they're going to lose again.
[00:21:01] And they might get down to four, maybe five losses this year.
[00:21:04] They got some good teams that could stop the run coming up in Illinois, Ohio State.
[00:21:10] So it's going to look it's going to be tough for Michigan going forward if a quarterback is not figured out.
[00:21:18] I still have a couple years of eligibility.
[00:21:20] Michigan hit me up.
[00:21:24] Well, it can't be worse, I guess.
[00:21:26] Yeah.
[00:21:26] Yeah.
[00:21:27] Pretty much.
[00:21:28] All right, Jess.
[00:21:29] Do you have any years of eligibility left?
[00:21:32] No.
[00:21:33] No.
[00:21:34] No.
[00:21:35] Sorry.
[00:21:36] Can't be a graduate transfer or anything.
[00:21:39] Yeah.
[00:21:40] I don't know why you thought Michigan was going to be any good this year, Tony.
[00:21:48] Listen, I really thought that they would have a quarterback.
[00:21:51] My bad.
[00:21:53] Ironically, I think Michigan is kind of in the same spot as Washington.
[00:22:00] Like, they just, they lost so much talent.
[00:22:02] They lost their head coach.
[00:22:04] They're kind of in this weird rebuilding year.
[00:22:09] And, I mean, well, I guess, you know, yeah, Washington, I guess, is a bit better at that this year than Michigan.
[00:22:22] But, hey, listen, Michigan's lost one game in the Big Ten.
[00:22:25] Their playoff chances are not over.
[00:22:26] They can still run the table.
[00:22:29] So, you never know, guys.
[00:22:31] So, I'm, I'm, it can happen.
[00:22:33] Look, Tony, if Michigan makes the playoffs, I will Venmo you 50 bucks.
[00:22:39] Just a lin egg.
[00:22:41] Just a lin egg.
[00:22:42] That I won't do.
[00:22:43] That I won't do.
[00:22:44] That I won't.
[00:22:45] Let's see what you could tweet about that you're going to do like everybody does now.
[00:22:48] I will Venmo you 50 bucks.
[00:22:49] All right.
[00:22:50] All right.
[00:22:51] Yeah.
[00:22:52] I still say they should put the freshman quarterback in.
[00:22:55] What do you got to lose at this point?
[00:22:57] You have no offense.
[00:22:58] He might as well throw somebody to get a spark.
[00:22:59] But maybe he's that terrible in practice.
[00:23:01] I don't know.
[00:23:03] All right.
[00:23:03] Let's move ahead to Jess's, one of Jess's favorite teams.
[00:23:07] We have Minnesota and USC.
[00:23:10] Minnesota upset USC 24-17.
[00:23:13] This also, you know, I don't know if it's all, but I had a critical decision there from head coach,
[00:23:17] P.J. Fleck to go for a touchdown instead of for a field goal, and it paid off.
[00:23:21] They had a really, I like their defense in this game.
[00:23:24] They had a nice game-winning interception to wrap this one up and show USC it's going to be harder to win in the Big Ten than it was in the Pac-12.
[00:23:34] So, Jordan, what about you?
[00:23:36] Any thoughts on this one?
[00:23:38] Minnesota just was consistent all around.
[00:23:42] Defensively, offensively.
[00:23:44] Max Brosmer was 15 for 19 for 169 yards.
[00:23:50] Their run game was consistent.
[00:23:52] Taylor had 25 carries for 144 yards.
[00:23:55] They were just consistent.
[00:23:58] All around.
[00:24:00] Good defense.
[00:24:00] Honestly, they should have won the week prior to Michigan.
[00:24:08] But they look like a team.
[00:24:10] Minnesota looks like a team on the up in the Big Ten.
[00:24:13] And for some reason, not a lot of people are talking about it.
[00:24:19] USC quarterback is still...
[00:24:21] Man, what's with these quarterbacks?
[00:24:25] They...
[00:24:26] I mean, one touchdown and two interceptions just looked bad.
[00:24:33] Miller Moss, we thought he looked good at the beginning of the season.
[00:24:36] But he just...
[00:24:37] This is how bad that LSU defense was, I think.
[00:24:40] Yeah.
[00:24:41] He just digressed.
[00:24:42] Their run game looked good.
[00:24:45] Woody Marks had 20 carries for 136 yards.
[00:24:48] Four yards.
[00:24:49] But I just think quarterback play, again, with USC is not where you would want it to be at a Lincoln-Riley school.
[00:24:58] And they're in the Big Ten now.
[00:25:00] And they're going to have to feel the pain.
[00:25:04] Feel the pain.
[00:25:05] All right.
[00:25:07] Jess, I know this is probably a painful one to watch here.
[00:25:10] So what are your thoughts on this one?
[00:25:12] I mean, the difference in this game was the turnovers.
[00:25:16] Minnesota only lost one fumble.
[00:25:18] But USC lost a fumble and had the two interceptions.
[00:25:22] I mean, this game was incredibly close.
[00:25:25] Total yards.
[00:25:26] USC, 373.
[00:25:29] Minnesota, 362.
[00:25:32] Passing yards.
[00:25:33] USC, 200.
[00:25:34] Minnesota, 169.
[00:25:37] But then rushing yards.
[00:25:38] Minnesota, 193.
[00:25:40] To USC's, 173.
[00:25:42] Yards per play.
[00:25:43] Minnesota, 6.1.
[00:25:45] USC, 5.7.
[00:25:47] First downs.
[00:25:48] Minnesota, 23.
[00:25:50] USC, 22.
[00:25:53] Then you get into, like, the third down.
[00:25:54] And this is where USC really had the advantage.
[00:25:59] They were 7 of 11 on third down efficiency.
[00:26:02] Minnesota was 2 of 8.
[00:26:04] But then Minnesota went 2 for 2 on fourth down.
[00:26:06] So you're looking at that.
[00:26:08] And it's like, well, everything was really close.
[00:26:11] But USC was able to sustain drives better, clearly.
[00:26:15] 7 for 11.
[00:26:17] You know, what was the difference?
[00:26:19] And like Jordan said, it was the quarterback play.
[00:26:21] It was those turnovers.
[00:26:22] You can't be having interceptions.
[00:26:24] You can't be losing fumbles.
[00:26:26] You can't just be giving these opportunities to the other team.
[00:26:30] Because if you take those out, I mean, at the very least, then, I mean, the time of possession was not even a full minute difference.
[00:26:40] USC held it for 30 minutes and 48 seconds.
[00:26:44] Minnesota had it for 29 minutes, 12 seconds.
[00:26:48] So, like, USC minimizes those turnovers.
[00:26:52] Maybe they even just throw one less interception.
[00:26:55] And we're looking at this game differently.
[00:26:58] But you can't be turning the ball over.
[00:27:01] Not when the margins are so close.
[00:27:04] Not when it's so – yeah, you got no room for error like that.
[00:27:07] But USC is learning the hard way about that Big Ten football.
[00:27:11] That's right.
[00:27:12] They got to get those lines up.
[00:27:14] And I think – I wonder if Miller Moss' performance in the bowl game last year and they decided not to go after a quarterback if they're regretting that.
[00:27:24] Well, he's played okay.
[00:27:25] I feel like not the – he's not the Lincoln-Raleigh type of quarterback that is explosive, like that I'm used to personally.
[00:27:32] So, let's see how they recover here.
[00:27:34] Because it's – the Big Ten doesn't go away.
[00:27:36] You have to keep coming back and have these nice physical games every week even against the teams that are not on the top tier of the Big Ten.
[00:27:42] So, they have to get their teams ready for that.
[00:27:45] All right.
[00:27:45] Last game we'll review of this week.
[00:27:47] That is Miami at Cal.
[00:27:50] Ah, poor Cal.
[00:27:52] I really thought they had this one.
[00:27:53] They were up 35-10.
[00:27:56] Miami avoided a near-certain defeat for the second straight week.
[00:28:02] Coming back to win this one, 39-38.
[00:28:05] Miami quarterback Cam Ward had a really great fourth quarter as they scored the final 21 points.
[00:28:11] Had a game-winning touchdown with 26 seconds left.
[00:28:16] You know, I think Ward had some bad passes, which I think he just – he's a gunslinger.
[00:28:23] So, I think he just has some bad passes when he's out there sometimes, interceptions and stuff.
[00:28:27] But he got the back in the game, did what he was supposed to do.
[00:28:31] You know, you've got to feel for Cal.
[00:28:34] They were winning that whole game and then they just lose it.
[00:28:37] Basically, one of the last plays of the game.
[00:28:39] So, there's some controversial calls again.
[00:28:43] But, you know, you don't give up a 25-point lead and you don't have to be in that situation.
[00:28:48] So, Miami found a way to stay unbeaten.
[00:28:51] So, Jordan, what was your thoughts there on Miami?
[00:28:55] Crazy.
[00:28:56] I feel like – I mean, Tony messaging – Tony, it's guys, just so you know, when teams are about to get upset and then the team comes back, no matter the point difference, it's because Tony messages us saying, did you guys see that score?
[00:29:09] I thought a 25-point lead was saved for Cal.
[00:29:12] I was like, oh my God, this is a crazy day.
[00:29:14] Tony, do you not remember 28-3?
[00:29:18] Yeah, but, you know, that was because the GOAT – I thought it was just because the GOAT was on the team, you know?
[00:29:22] Come on, man.
[00:29:24] But Miami –
[00:29:26] Don't be safe.
[00:29:26] This is football.
[00:29:27] Miami basically should have won this game comfortably.
[00:29:32] If you look at it on paper, stat-wise, they led in everything, first downs, total yards, passing, rushing, penalties.
[00:29:45] They led in penalties.
[00:29:48] And time of possession.
[00:29:49] But big win for Miami comeback.
[00:29:51] I think, though, it's really showing that Miami's defense is not the defense we all thought we saw early in the season.
[00:30:02] But letting up 25 points early and almost losing and having to have your offense save you is not what we thought Miami's team would be.
[00:30:14] We thought, you know, watching them against Florida, we thought that team would be consistent on both sides of the ball.
[00:30:20] But right now, there's a lot of, you know, issues on that defense that really showed in the last two games.
[00:30:26] So, big win for Miami, big comeback.
[00:30:30] Might a little stock drop for me with Cam Ward at Heisman just because a lot of the stuff is just petty yards.
[00:30:39] And what was he, 35 for 53?
[00:30:45] 35-53 for 437, two touchdowns, and the pick six.
[00:30:50] So, three touchdowns.
[00:30:52] Technically.
[00:30:54] Three touchdowns.
[00:30:55] That's right.
[00:30:56] He'll take it.
[00:30:57] He also added a rushing touchdown.
[00:31:02] I mean, look at their schedule.
[00:31:03] Carries for 15 yards in the touchdown, if that sways you at all in any way.
[00:31:09] If you look at their schedule, they have Florida State, Duke, Georgia Tech, Wake Forest, and Syracuse.
[00:31:14] Man, they really just got defeated.
[00:31:16] The team, I feel like, will give them the best shot to beat them, even though they lost the last two weeks, I think, is Louisville on October 19th.
[00:31:24] I feel Louisville has the offense if they can get their stuff together to give that defense fits for Miami.
[00:31:30] It could be a shootout.
[00:31:31] It's at Louisville.
[00:31:32] It is at 12 o'clock in the afternoon, but we'll talk about that game next week.
[00:31:37] Okay.
[00:31:38] Jess, any final thoughts on this game before we move on to the next section?
[00:31:41] I have a slight disagreement on the state of Miami's defense.
[00:31:49] Just because, I mean, a lot of Cal got 110 yards off of Miami penalties.
[00:32:01] Miami had nine penalties for 110 yards.
[00:32:05] So that is literally over a football field.
[00:32:09] Yes, but that's your defense not playing smart.
[00:32:12] So it's your...
[00:32:13] Well, who knows how much.
[00:32:15] Either side.
[00:32:17] I mean, it could have been a pass interference.
[00:32:19] It could have been unnecessary.
[00:32:21] I mean, it's still a big thing on your defense.
[00:32:24] It's Miami only allowed...
[00:32:27] Their defense only allowed a total of 370 yards.
[00:32:31] And most of that was through the air.
[00:32:34] But the quarterback was 50% completion percentage.
[00:32:39] A lot of it was those big plays.
[00:32:42] They had a 57-yard pass, a 66-yard pass.
[00:32:45] You know, that goes a long way in obviously getting points.
[00:32:54] Yeah, it's...
[00:32:55] But if we talk about the good defenses, they don't let up 50-yard passing touchdowns.
[00:33:02] No, I'm saying I don't think it's as big of a concern.
[00:33:06] I think that Miami's defense is going to be able to hold more teams in check than...
[00:33:15] But they don't play anyone, so it's not like it matters.
[00:33:18] So I think it'll be good enough to get them where they want to go.
[00:33:22] I don't think anybody entered this season having them as a true contender.
[00:33:26] I think of the three of us, I'm the only one that had them making the playoffs, if I'm not mistaken.
[00:33:32] Did either of you guys have Miami making the playoffs?
[00:33:35] No.
[00:33:35] Checking our list, no.
[00:33:37] I do see a Michigan in there, though.
[00:33:40] I wonder who that was.
[00:33:41] Oh, wait, that was both of you.
[00:33:42] Crazy kids.
[00:33:44] Oh, what about that Liberty pick?
[00:33:47] They got screwed over by Webber.
[00:33:49] Yeah, shut up.
[00:33:50] Arizona?
[00:33:51] Oh, that's...
[00:33:52] That was...
[00:33:53] You guys both picked Utah.
[00:33:54] We'll get to that.
[00:33:55] And Utah is still winning at the conference.
[00:33:57] Cam Rides is back.
[00:33:58] It's just going to be fun.
[00:34:00] But my point is, I think Miami's defense is going to be good enough because, like you
[00:34:05] said, I don't think they're going to end up playing anybody, really.
[00:34:09] Louisville, like Tony said, I think is going to be the only team that's really going to
[00:34:13] put up points on them.
[00:34:14] But I trust Miami's offense.
[00:34:17] Obviously, I wouldn't be...
[00:34:19] If I'm a Miami fan, I'm not hoping for a 39-38 kind of game again.
[00:34:23] But I do think Miami's offense is good enough to keep up with pretty much anybody in the
[00:34:28] ACC.
[00:34:29] The real question will be is, if both make it to the ACC championship, what are we going
[00:34:34] to see from a Miami Clemson game?
[00:34:37] That'll have to be discussed at a later date.
[00:34:39] But I think that could be a very interesting matchup.
[00:34:43] Yeah, because I think Clemson's defense versus that offense would be a nice matchup to watch
[00:34:48] for sure.
[00:34:50] All right.
[00:34:50] Well, we talked a little bit about playoffs.
[00:34:52] So let's take a look here on our playoff picks.
[00:34:55] Let me see.
[00:35:01] One second, folks.
[00:35:03] I'll just edit this out.
[00:35:09] All right.
[00:35:09] So let's take a look at this here.
[00:35:12] Hopefully you can see that okay.
[00:35:13] Let me see.
[00:35:14] Probably not.
[00:35:15] Probably too small.
[00:35:15] But it's okay.
[00:35:16] We're going to talk through it.
[00:35:18] You tried to.
[00:35:19] I tried, you know, this Riverside because hit or miss, guys.
[00:35:22] I'm sorry.
[00:35:24] What's this fit?
[00:35:26] There you are.
[00:35:27] All right.
[00:35:29] We're at N.S.
[00:35:30] all out.
[00:35:30] This is ridiculous.
[00:35:33] I have to do work after this.
[00:35:36] I think you can leave this in.
[00:35:38] It shows you our human side.
[00:35:40] Yeah.
[00:35:40] All right.
[00:35:41] So let's take a look at these human side.
[00:35:44] So that's definitely not AI and huge technology helping us here.
[00:35:49] So, Jess, you know, looking at your picks, obviously, I think you're still on track for your Ohio State, Texas, Ohio State champion.
[00:35:58] I think you're looking good there.
[00:36:00] And, you know, obviously, I think we called out a couple of potential issues.
[00:36:03] You have Liberty and Arizona are those potential issues there.
[00:36:08] I feel like you're good with Miami.
[00:36:11] You go with Georgia.
[00:36:13] You feel uneasy about anybody else on this list?
[00:36:17] Ole Miss definitely has to win this week.
[00:36:20] Yeah.
[00:36:21] That Kentucky loss did not help.
[00:36:24] But I think the fact that then Georgia lost, Bama lost, LSU has lost, you know, Tennessee lost.
[00:36:32] Like, all of those teams have lost.
[00:36:35] So if Ole Miss loses in the future, let me pull up their schedule for myself real quick.
[00:36:44] Oh, they're definitely losing in the future.
[00:36:46] Yeah, they're definitely losing.
[00:36:48] But if they can win, if they can beat LSU and Oklahoma, I mean, the only team that I think is really, like,
[00:36:58] I would say is a definite loss for them in the future is when they host Georgia.
[00:37:05] Because if they can get past LSU and Oklahoma, I think then they should be able to beat Arkansas, Florida, and Mississippi State.
[00:37:17] Otherwise, it's just Georgia.
[00:37:18] But that is, I think, the team most on the edge there.
[00:37:23] Penn State is another one where, right now, I think they're currently fourth in the AP poll.
[00:37:29] But I think overall, they're looking all right.
[00:37:35] Liberty, I'm doomed with.
[00:37:38] Boise State is probably going to get in off the legs of Ashton Gianti, who's currently having, I think,
[00:37:44] possibly the greatest running back season in the history of college football.
[00:37:49] But Liberty had a chance, but their real meaningful big game got just straight up canceled.
[00:37:55] I'm not sure if it got rescheduled.
[00:37:57] I haven't heard any news about that.
[00:37:59] I don't think it's getting rescheduled.
[00:38:00] Yeah, so I'm doomed there.
[00:38:03] But otherwise, I'm feeling pretty good.
[00:38:04] A Clemson-Miami ACC championship is more than in play.
[00:38:09] Ohio State beating Oregon, well, that'll be this weekend.
[00:38:13] And then Ohio State going on to win the Big Ten would be nice.
[00:38:18] That Texas pick is looking better and better each week, you know?
[00:38:21] So, but, you know, it'll be interesting to see going forward.
[00:38:27] But I'm pretty happy with my picks right now.
[00:38:30] All right.
[00:38:31] All right, let's move on to Jordan.
[00:38:33] Jordan, you obviously have Oregon as your champion against Notre Dame in the finals.
[00:38:38] I don't know how that one's going to hold up for both of us.
[00:38:41] Because Notre Dame, you know, they did a beat number one SEC team.
[00:38:44] So, well, looking pretty good there.
[00:38:47] That was a great win for Notre Dame, that Texas A&M win.
[00:38:52] That was a great win.
[00:38:53] Looking good, looking good.
[00:38:54] Woo!
[00:38:56] If you had to lose to NIU, at least you got the Texas A&M win to go with it.
[00:39:00] So, hopefully it cancels you that out.
[00:39:03] All right, Jordan.
[00:39:04] So, obviously we talked about Michigan.
[00:39:07] I think that's the one that's most definitely in trouble here.
[00:39:10] Probably Missouri as well.
[00:39:11] Oh, yeah, NC State.
[00:39:14] They paid me, okay, guys?
[00:39:16] Yeah, sure.
[00:39:18] You were getting that NIL money there, Jordan?
[00:39:20] Yep.
[00:39:21] Yep.
[00:39:23] Utah.
[00:39:24] I guess, you know, we talked about Utah.
[00:39:25] I think Utah still has a shot.
[00:39:26] I mean, Cam Rising, if he can get healthy, I think they can get their shot to win the Big 12
[00:39:32] and get to that top four for sure.
[00:39:36] But, yeah.
[00:39:37] I mean, I don't know.
[00:39:39] I'm not...
[00:39:40] I didn't pick Penn State because I'm not big on Penn State still.
[00:39:43] So, I feel like this whole season, I haven't seen anything from them to show that they're
[00:39:48] going to be in this conversation for college football playoff.
[00:39:52] Just look at that Bowling Green game and then talk to me.
[00:39:58] But...
[00:39:59] Well, I mean, Bowling Green did almost beat Texas A&M too.
[00:40:02] So, maybe Bowling Green's just a good team.
[00:40:03] That's okay.
[00:40:06] Sorry.
[00:40:07] Logic into the conversation.
[00:40:09] Don't put that in.
[00:40:10] Don't put that in there.
[00:40:12] All right.
[00:40:13] So, yeah, I guess what Kinks put you still for the most part.
[00:40:16] You have, I think...
[00:40:18] I still see Notre Dame getting to the playoffs.
[00:40:20] So, they're definitely fine.
[00:40:21] I don't know.
[00:40:22] Depending what they're ranking...
[00:40:24] Path is.
[00:40:25] You can potentially get this final four for sure.
[00:40:28] It's still on the table.
[00:40:29] So, I think you're looking pretty good there.
[00:40:32] Yes.
[00:40:33] All right.
[00:40:33] Let's look over to mine.
[00:40:35] The worst one here.
[00:40:36] First of all, no.
[00:40:38] That's not me.
[00:40:39] My owner's looking pretty good over to Michigan.
[00:40:40] Okay.
[00:40:41] Well, I had Michigan all the way into the...
[00:40:42] That's just what kills me.
[00:40:44] If I would have had Michigan to stop right there at number nine, I would have been fine.
[00:40:47] But, no.
[00:40:48] I had to have them go win a couple games.
[00:40:50] Missouri pick for both of you is also looking a little...
[00:40:52] Yeah.
[00:40:53] That doesn't count.
[00:40:54] Yeah.
[00:40:55] I really thought Missouri was going to be good.
[00:40:57] And then Texas losing.
[00:40:59] I mean, you have Missouri beating Texas, Tony.
[00:41:02] That could still happen, guys.
[00:41:04] Don't act like it.
[00:41:05] It's out of the realm of possibilities.
[00:41:06] Yeah.
[00:41:07] We never know what the committee is going to do.
[00:41:10] That is true.
[00:41:11] That is true.
[00:41:11] We're all here in just a wild ride.
[00:41:13] Texas seven because I thought they were going to lose at least one game and get dropped down
[00:41:18] to number seven.
[00:41:18] He thought they were going to lose to Michigan.
[00:41:21] Well...
[00:41:21] No, I didn't think that.
[00:41:22] I thought...
[00:41:23] I guess I did think that.
[00:41:24] I don't know.
[00:41:26] Texas still could.
[00:41:28] I mean, they've got the Georgia game.
[00:41:33] They've got...
[00:41:34] These next two weeks are more or less going to determine that for you, Tony.
[00:41:38] Oklahoma and Georgia.
[00:41:39] Oklahoma, Georgia.
[00:41:40] Georgia.
[00:41:41] And then at the end of the season, Texas has to go to A&M.
[00:41:45] That's true.
[00:41:46] Who...
[00:41:46] Who's starting at quarterback for Oklahoma this weekend?
[00:41:49] That is...
[00:41:50] The young kid.
[00:41:51] That could be viewers, but...
[00:41:53] No, no, no.
[00:41:54] At Oklahoma.
[00:41:55] Oklahoma.
[00:41:56] The young kid.
[00:41:57] The Red River game always played at like a neutral or something.
[00:42:01] Or am I...
[00:42:01] Yeah, it's a neutral.
[00:42:03] It's at Dallas.
[00:42:05] It's at the Cotton Bowl.
[00:42:07] It's at the Big Fair or whatever they have.
[00:42:09] Texas Fair.
[00:42:10] But they...
[00:42:11] The young kid's going to play, the true freshman.
[00:42:13] He started against Auburn, won that game.
[00:42:16] And so they're going to...
[00:42:16] I figure they're going to keep rolling with him the rest of the season.
[00:42:19] Oh.
[00:42:19] I don't know.
[00:42:20] I feel like that's the biggest question mark is that quarterback.
[00:42:24] But...
[00:42:25] Okay.
[00:42:25] Here, I was really high on their name, obviously.
[00:42:29] I'm hoping they pull through for me here.
[00:42:31] I have Georgia winning, so that's still alive, I guess.
[00:42:33] You know, Georgia didn't look as good against Alabama, which lost to Vanderbilt.
[00:42:37] But also, yeah.
[00:42:37] I don't know what that means.
[00:42:38] So, guys, Vanderbilt is the best team in college football right now.
[00:42:42] That's true.
[00:42:43] By the transitive property of beating teams...
[00:42:46] Who did they lose to, Vanderbilt?
[00:42:48] Georgia State.
[00:42:49] Georgia State is the best team in college football.
[00:42:51] I'm pretty sure it was Georgia State, yeah.
[00:42:53] Yeah, I think it was.
[00:42:58] Vanderbilt has lost to Missouri and Georgia State.
[00:43:04] So, does that mean Texas A&M is the best team?
[00:43:09] It does.
[00:43:10] Well, Notre Dame beat them.
[00:43:11] Notre Dame's the best.
[00:43:12] I mean, Northern Illinois is the best team in college football.
[00:43:15] Northern Illinois is the best team.
[00:43:17] So, does that mean Buffalo is the best team in college football?
[00:43:20] Who knows?
[00:43:21] It keeps going.
[00:43:21] Who knows?
[00:43:22] It's like 2007 all over again.
[00:43:25] Yes, it is.
[00:43:25] There's some crazy results.
[00:43:27] All right.
[00:43:28] Obviously, the AP poll, this came down with their top 25.
[00:43:32] I thought we could do a cool, fun exercise going off of Jess's recent TikTok questions for us.
[00:43:38] I'm going to give you guys a few different random teams in the top 15.
[00:43:44] And you have to rank them where you would have them in the top five, not knowing what's coming next.
[00:43:50] So, blind ranking these teams.
[00:43:51] So, let me go for the list here.
[00:43:55] Okay.
[00:43:56] Texas A&M.
[00:43:59] Jess, I'm thinking three.
[00:44:04] I'm thinking he's going to put out someone.
[00:44:08] I mean, I still don't love that offense.
[00:44:13] Hey, man.
[00:44:14] I mean, it was good.
[00:44:15] I know.
[00:44:16] I know.
[00:44:16] But we don't care about this offense, okay?
[00:44:19] We are at the point where they were, what are they, 11?
[00:44:22] What are they now?
[00:44:23] 15?
[00:44:24] They're both.
[00:44:24] They're depending on which.
[00:44:25] AP poll 15.
[00:44:28] Okay.
[00:44:28] If these are all just top 15 teams, I mean, I think it depends where you would put a team,
[00:44:34] like, if he pulls an Ole Miss on us.
[00:44:37] Are you doing this top 25, right?
[00:44:39] I'm only pulling for top 15.
[00:44:41] Oh, that's dumb.
[00:44:41] He's only pulling teams from the top 15.
[00:44:43] Oh, then, yeah.
[00:44:44] Wait, wait, wait.
[00:44:45] Put them in five.
[00:44:45] What?
[00:44:46] Well, I mean, I think I would take A&M over the likes of BYU.
[00:44:52] Texas A&M or, say, Iowa State.
[00:44:54] Who would you pick?
[00:44:55] Oh, Texas A&M.
[00:44:56] That defense is too good.
[00:44:58] And Iowa State's 11th right now.
[00:44:59] Let's put them at four.
[00:45:02] Let's put A&M.
[00:45:02] All right.
[00:45:03] I guess four works with me.
[00:45:04] Texas A&M is four.
[00:45:05] Because there are a couple teams I think I would take A&M over.
[00:45:08] All right.
[00:45:09] Good, good pick there, guys.
[00:45:11] All right.
[00:45:11] Penn State.
[00:45:13] Oh, shit.
[00:45:14] Three.
[00:45:14] I'm okay with them at three there.
[00:45:17] Five.
[00:45:18] No.
[00:45:19] I don't want to.
[00:45:22] They haven't played anybody.
[00:45:24] They don't look.
[00:45:25] Drew Aller is still not the guy.
[00:45:27] Well, I guess the question is, do you think Penn State would beat Texas A&M if they played?
[00:45:30] I do.
[00:45:32] That game would be good.
[00:45:35] And for the record, Penn State has beaten.
[00:45:38] Who?
[00:45:39] Illinois?
[00:45:40] Illinois.
[00:45:41] That's not.
[00:45:42] At home.
[00:45:43] At home.
[00:45:43] At home.
[00:45:44] Yeah.
[00:45:45] And A&M just beat Missouri at home.
[00:45:50] Yes.
[00:45:51] Which is a better win.
[00:45:52] But Missouri.
[00:45:53] Because Missouri was good the last two years.
[00:45:56] Illinois is not good.
[00:46:01] Like, is Illinois a...
[00:46:05] Illinois.
[00:46:05] Illinois.
[00:46:06] Illinois.
[00:46:07] Illinois, the last two years, didn't know how to throw the ball forward.
[00:46:12] And now they're the 23rd best team in the country at this moment in time, according to the people.
[00:46:17] And what were they ranked when they played Penn State?
[00:46:20] Penn State?
[00:46:21] Uh, I have no idea.
[00:46:23] I don't...
[00:46:23] Were they even ranked at that point?
[00:46:25] Yes.
[00:46:26] I don't know.
[00:46:27] Were they ranked?
[00:46:28] Yes.
[00:46:30] Then what were they ranked?
[00:46:31] 25th?
[00:46:32] A number.
[00:46:34] Thanks, Jordan.
[00:46:35] That's very helpful.
[00:46:37] They were ranked 19th.
[00:46:40] They were ranked 19th.
[00:46:42] Okay?
[00:46:42] So, and look.
[00:46:45] I'm just saying, put Penn State at three.
[00:46:49] Put Penn State at three.
[00:46:51] Alright.
[00:46:52] Penn State at three.
[00:46:53] Alright, next up.
[00:46:55] Clemson.
[00:46:57] Well, that's an interesting one.
[00:47:03] I don't know if I want to put Clemson at two.
[00:47:08] No.
[00:47:10] No.
[00:47:10] That means we have to put them at five.
[00:47:13] Alright.
[00:47:14] Five or three?
[00:47:16] Two, Jess.
[00:47:16] What are we doing here?
[00:47:17] I say...
[00:47:18] I say five.
[00:47:20] Yeah, five.
[00:47:20] I think Texas A&M...
[00:47:21] I think Clemson's offense, if they were to go up against either A&M's defense or Penn State's defense,
[00:47:29] I don't love that matchup for Clemson.
[00:47:32] Cade.
[00:47:32] It's not even Clemson.
[00:47:33] It's just Cade Klubnik.
[00:47:35] Well, good on you.
[00:47:36] I like why he's been playing this area, personally.
[00:47:37] He's been playing good against lesser caliber teams.
[00:47:41] Look at him playing Georgia.
[00:47:43] Okay, well...
[00:47:44] Look at a lot of teams playing Georgia.
[00:47:46] Yeah.
[00:47:48] Yeah.
[00:47:49] Look at him against Vanderbilt.
[00:47:50] Oh.
[00:47:51] Still.
[00:47:52] Alright.
[00:47:52] Next up, we have LSU.
[00:47:56] Oh.
[00:47:57] Damn it.
[00:47:58] Two.
[00:48:00] Two.
[00:48:01] I forgot they were ranked that high.
[00:48:03] Yep, they are.
[00:48:05] Gosh, how did they do that?
[00:48:06] Alright, guys.
[00:48:07] So we have one left.
[00:48:10] That's our number one spot.
[00:48:12] And that's going to be your number one spot.
[00:48:14] He's going to put like Iowa State.
[00:48:17] Oh, yeah.
[00:48:18] BYU.
[00:48:18] He's going to put them.
[00:48:20] And it's Oregon.
[00:48:21] Oh, I'm good with that.
[00:48:22] I'm okay with that.
[00:48:23] Alright.
[00:48:23] I'm good with one.
[00:48:25] I'm okay with one.
[00:48:26] I would put...
[00:48:29] I would move LSU down to five.
[00:48:32] Definitely.
[00:48:33] Definitely.
[00:48:34] I would put Penn State at two.
[00:48:36] No.
[00:48:36] Penn State at two.
[00:48:37] I would put A&M at two.
[00:48:39] I would put Penn State at five.
[00:48:42] You're crazy.
[00:48:44] I'm not a business guy.
[00:48:44] You guys just don't like Drew Aller.
[00:48:47] I don't.
[00:48:47] That's your team.
[00:48:50] That's a quarterback.
[00:48:51] When you haven't...
[00:48:52] When you haven't beat...
[00:48:53] I'm higher on Drew Aller than you guys are.
[00:48:56] When you haven't beat Ohio State or Michigan basically in the last 15 years, there has to
[00:49:05] be something.
[00:49:06] You were talking about teams that at the very least went with Ohio State have been consistently
[00:49:15] in that tier, not just above Ohio State, but above pretty much every single team in the
[00:49:22] country.
[00:49:23] Like, Ohio State is consistently in the playoffs.
[00:49:28] They are.
[00:49:29] Well, Penn State has consistently lost two games a year.
[00:49:34] To who?
[00:49:34] That's better than 99% of every other team in the country.
[00:49:38] Yeah, okay.
[00:49:39] But if you're...
[00:49:41] Because you play nobody, their schedule only has Ohio State and Michigan 90% of the time.
[00:49:49] If you cannot beat...
[00:49:50] By that logic there, the only teams that are ever any definitively level of good are the
[00:49:59] SEC teams.
[00:50:00] Because they can't control who's in the Big Ten.
[00:50:05] Okay.
[00:50:05] But if you cannot beat...
[00:50:07] The best teams in the country every year is Iowa, who has the top defense and worst offense.
[00:50:10] But if you cannot beat...
[00:50:12] That's funny.
[00:50:13] If you cannot beat the top two teams in your conference, then you're not good enough.
[00:50:19] There's a difference between not being good enough and being one of the better teams.
[00:50:26] Because let's be real here.
[00:50:27] We're going to get into the playoff pretty much every year now that we have 12.
[00:50:31] And there's going...
[00:50:32] It's still going to be the same couple of teams that are beating everybody else.
[00:50:36] Like, that is going to be the case most years.
[00:50:39] That we're going to be looking at it.
[00:50:41] Like, this year, it's going to be Texas.
[00:50:43] It's going to be probably Ohio State.
[00:50:47] Oregon, for as high as I've been on them, probably isn't quite in that tier.
[00:50:51] We're going to learn a lot about that this weekend.
[00:50:53] But, like, who this year, outside of Texas, essentially, has beaten anybody notable and
[00:51:01] looked consistently good?
[00:51:02] Penn State has not beaten a top 10 team.
[00:51:09] Unless they did it last year.
[00:51:10] Did it last year?
[00:51:13] I can't remember off the top of my head.
[00:51:15] Since 2016!
[00:51:17] And that doesn't matter.
[00:51:20] Because at the end of the day, one, it sucks.
[00:51:24] You can only play who's in front of you.
[00:51:25] And I think we would all...
[00:51:27] Every college football fan is going to be...
[00:51:30] Would vie for more consistent, like, Penn State...
[00:51:33] Playing in all...
[00:51:34] But if you're supposed to be a top-tier Big Ten school, you should drop against UCLA.
[00:51:42] At home, you should put up 50.
[00:51:44] You should put up 50 against Bowling Green.
[00:51:48] You should put up 50 against West Virginia.
[00:51:52] Teams that you should blow out...
[00:51:54] West Virginia isn't that bad.
[00:51:56] West Virginia isn't that bad.
[00:51:57] But if you're...
[00:51:57] You should not be consistently putting up 50 against a team like West Virginia.
[00:52:00] Okay, but the other games...
[00:52:02] They're not that bad.
[00:52:02] The other games, you should consistently putting up these points.
[00:52:07] It is very rare that teams are consistently...
[00:52:11] Like, we're...
[00:52:12] But first off, who...
[00:52:13] I hate to be pulling this up.
[00:52:15] Who's the one...
[00:52:15] Wait, Jess.
[00:52:16] But Ole Miss putting...
[00:52:18] What was it?
[00:52:18] 77 on Furman is not something that...
[00:52:22] But Jess...
[00:52:22] But Jess, how are you gonna...
[00:52:24] But Texas A&M dropping 41 against a Missouri team that everyone thought would be in the college football playoffs this year?
[00:52:34] Penn State can barely beat...
[00:52:37] Penn State cannot...
[00:52:39] Penn State...
[00:52:41] Drew Aller's not the guy.
[00:52:43] And they're not...
[00:52:44] You wanna...
[00:52:44] If we're just going purely off of, like, those...
[00:52:48] Feels so mean to be putting it like this, but lesser teams...
[00:52:52] Penn State did drop 50 on Kent State.
[00:52:56] But we're not talking about that team.
[00:52:58] Because schools do that.
[00:52:59] Yes.
[00:53:00] And if...
[00:53:01] If Penn State goes out and beats USC 35-17, is that gonna move you at all?
[00:53:10] But no.
[00:53:11] If Penn State goes out there and beats Minnesota 38-21 or something like that, like, is that going to move you?
[00:53:22] Like, because Penn State right now, the only team that's a true beast left on their schedule is home against Ohio State on November 2nd.
[00:53:32] So, right now, I mean, Clemson hasn't really beaten anybody notable this year.
[00:53:39] I mean, their biggest game, they got absolutely mollywhopped.
[00:53:44] Texas A&M, I mean...
[00:53:46] But first...
[00:53:47] We've been looking at this game against Missouri very differently later on in the season.
[00:53:51] But first off...
[00:53:52] Their best game of the season was a loss to Notre Dame.
[00:53:56] Would you want a quarterback that can throw the ball and you have almost 200 passing yards this game, or this season already, or only 1,000?
[00:54:06] Just...
[00:54:06] What would your answer be on that one?
[00:54:08] A guy who's only got 200 yards?
[00:54:11] 2,000 passing yards, or 1,000 passing yards.
[00:54:15] What would you want?
[00:54:17] Depends.
[00:54:18] I mean, Drew...
[00:54:19] I know what you're trying to do here.
[00:54:20] Drew Aller is completing 71% of his passes.
[00:54:24] He's got nine touchdowns to one interception.
[00:54:26] Am I getting 2,000 yards and...
[00:54:30] You're getting 2,000 yards and a quarterback that's winning you games.
[00:54:35] Drew Aller is a system quarterback that the only reason they're winning is because they're playing lesser opponents.
[00:54:43] Drew Aller has improved this season compared to last season.
[00:54:48] I think he's the same quarterback we saw last year.
[00:54:50] Drew Penn State right now with...
[00:54:53] Is not better than Texas A&M.
[00:54:54] Drew Aller with the pieces that they have, with a phenomenal defense.
[00:55:00] I would take Penn State over A&M.
[00:55:03] I would take Penn State over Clemson right now.
[00:55:07] I would take Penn State over LSU.
[00:55:11] LSU, yeah.
[00:55:11] I would not take them over.
[00:55:13] I would not.
[00:55:14] Texas A&M will beat them like they beat Missouri.
[00:55:19] Drew Aller.
[00:55:19] Agree to disagree on that one.
[00:55:22] All right.
[00:55:22] Well, great conversation, guys.
[00:55:25] Great conversation.
[00:55:25] I didn't realize my blind ranking would bring out such a passionate debate here.
[00:55:31] You know, for my final closing thoughts on this, I think Texas A&M would stomp Penn State into the ground and it would be left anything there.
[00:55:39] Agree to disagree.
[00:55:39] I do think Penn State could potentially beat Clemson and they would definitely beat LSU.
[00:55:46] I just...
[00:55:46] Clemson, I've seen it, like you said.
[00:55:49] I said Clemson is...
[00:55:50] I like Clemson.
[00:55:51] I like to assist the Georgia game.
[00:55:52] I really like how they played, but they haven't played anybody.
[00:55:55] So I don't want to get too far ahead of myself with Clemson.
[00:55:58] So it's interesting to see where this goes.
[00:55:59] But let's transition and rapid fire now that we're almost at five hours of the podcast here.
[00:56:08] Penn State, what's going for top games of the week?
[00:56:09] I would use that conversation.
[00:56:13] We'll start with Penn State.
[00:56:15] Penn State, USC.
[00:56:17] Let me see.
[00:56:18] Penn State is favored by four points.
[00:56:21] Over-under is 50 and a half.
[00:56:23] As you mentioned, Drew Aller has over 1,100 yards, nine touchdowns for the year.
[00:56:29] And Miller Moss has about 1,400 yards, nine touchdowns, four interceptions.
[00:56:34] So very similar, I would say, from the offense perspective.
[00:56:38] So who do you guys have in this game?
[00:56:40] Quickly, Penn State or USC?
[00:56:43] Jordan.
[00:56:44] I got Penn State.
[00:56:45] I just think USC's defense is not good.
[00:56:48] The offense doesn't look good.
[00:56:50] Miller Moss doesn't look good.
[00:56:52] I think that's his name.
[00:56:54] That's his name.
[00:56:55] Jess.
[00:56:56] Give me Penn State.
[00:56:57] Penn State.
[00:56:58] I don't think USC's defense has been that bad.
[00:57:01] I don't think it's as much of a concern as it has been in previous years.
[00:57:04] But that being said, I think USC's offense is going to struggle against that Penn State defense.
[00:57:10] Miller Moss started the year hot and hasn't looked quite as good.
[00:57:14] And with some of the guys Penn State's got on the defensive side, I think that's going to cause them issues.
[00:57:20] And I think Penn State's going to win this one.
[00:57:24] All right.
[00:57:24] I want to – it burns my soul to say it, but I think USC wins this game.
[00:57:28] I do think – I do feel like I'm not a believer in Drew Owler.
[00:57:32] And I just look at the tougher of the competition.
[00:57:36] They did beat Illinois, but it was 21-7.
[00:57:38] They did beat UCLA, but it was 27-11.
[00:57:40] Very ugly, kind of a sloppy game.
[00:57:43] I just – I feel like –
[00:57:44] That game was not nearly as close as even the score would make you believe.
[00:57:47] Well, I totally get it because UCLA sucks and they don't have any offense.
[00:57:50] UCLA got that – got a guard – got a touchdown and a two-point conversion with 16 seconds left.
[00:57:55] But for a while there, for like two, two and a half quarters, it was – if UCLA had an offense,
[00:58:01] they would have been in that game, but they didn't.
[00:58:03] So I think USC does have an offense.
[00:58:06] I think they're going to be fighting for their lives in this game.
[00:58:09] And I think they want to show – I think Lincoln Raleigh's going to throw all the stops out here
[00:58:13] to try to win this one.
[00:58:13] So I'll take USC to win this game.
[00:58:15] And I've never heard you go against USC so hard, so I don't know what's going on for you today, Jess.
[00:58:21] All right, let's move on to South Carolina, Alabama.
[00:58:26] Let me see.
[00:58:27] Alabama's favorite by 22 and a half points.
[00:58:29] Give me – give me those numbers, but I don't know.
[00:58:31] I don't know.
[00:58:31] South Carolina struggled last week.
[00:58:32] Maybe not.
[00:58:34] I have Sellers for – the quarterback for South Carolina.
[00:58:38] I think since he's got injured, he has a – he played last week.
[00:58:40] He just has looked like himself.
[00:58:42] I feel like he's a young freshman.
[00:58:44] I think he needs a little more time.
[00:58:46] So with this one, do you think this is a bounce-back game for Alabama,
[00:58:49] or do you see South Carolina falling up with another upset?
[00:58:52] Start with you, Jess.
[00:58:54] Give me Alabama.
[00:58:56] All around just a better team.
[00:58:58] They had the loss versus Vanderbilt.
[00:58:59] They had a scare against Georgia.
[00:59:02] But, I mean, this is still one of the most talented teams in the country.
[00:59:06] I think they'll be fine.
[00:59:07] I think they're going to bounce back.
[00:59:08] I think they know that they can't afford another loss, especially to another team that's not a Georgia or a Tennessee kind of team.
[00:59:16] But they're going to bounce back.
[00:59:19] And I think – I even think they cover.
[00:59:22] I think they cover that 22 and a half.
[00:59:24] All right.
[00:59:25] Jordan, agree?
[00:59:26] Yeah, I think they bounce back.
[00:59:27] I think Sellers didn't look as good as he did in the early couple games.
[00:59:33] Like you said, Tony, I think that injury really has lessened him.
[00:59:37] And I think with him being a freshman still and not being 100% comfortable,
[00:59:44] I think Alabama is going to be able to control this game.
[00:59:46] And like Jess said, I think covering that spread is going to be pretty easy for Alabama.
[00:59:51] Yeah, I think they have the extra motivation after coming off a loss to coming home to really take all their frustration out on South Carolina.
[00:59:58] So I do feel like they'll probably cover this one.
[01:00:01] All right.
[01:00:02] Next up, Texas and Oklahoma.
[01:00:05] River River Rivalry.
[01:00:06] You know, this one I think we talked about earlier, but you just throw out the records.
[01:00:10] It doesn't matter who's bad, who's good.
[01:00:12] But these teams are pretty decent.
[01:00:14] 5-0 Texas goes to 4-1 Oklahoma.
[01:00:17] Texas is favored by 14 and a half points.
[01:00:20] I think we talked a little bit about who's going to be the starting quarterback.
[01:00:25] I don't know.
[01:00:26] Like, I'm not sure.
[01:00:27] Like, I'm assuming Hawkins will be the quarterback.
[01:00:29] I haven't heard anything different.
[01:00:31] But I looked it up really quick while you guys were talking to make sure that's still the case.
[01:00:35] So who do you guys have in this one?
[01:00:37] Is it going to be Texas or Oklahoma?
[01:00:41] I have Texas in this one.
[01:00:43] I think Texas is the all-around better school right now.
[01:00:47] Especially if Cohen Ewers does come back.
[01:00:50] This game's going to be, yeah, throughout their record, everything.
[01:00:56] I just think that Texas has dominated this year in majority of the games.
[01:01:02] Oklahoma has looked sloppy and honestly could have lost several of the games they did play,
[01:01:09] especially last week against Auburn.
[01:01:12] Two weeks ago?
[01:01:14] Did they have a bye week?
[01:01:15] Yeah.
[01:01:15] Well, they never had only had maybe one receiver playing in that game.
[01:01:19] Yeah.
[01:01:19] I remember that too.
[01:01:20] But they just seem a little, just not 100% there in a lot of the things.
[01:01:26] So I think Texas just has more star power on both offense and defense.
[01:01:30] They're going to be able to control this game.
[01:01:31] They are 14.5 point favorites.
[01:01:33] So I'm taking that all game.
[01:01:37] I think Texas is going to be able to comfortably win this game.
[01:01:42] All right.
[01:01:43] Jesse, you agree?
[01:01:43] So it is expected that Ewers is going to start.
[01:01:47] At least that's what early indicators are pointing towards.
[01:01:51] And honestly, like, I think Texas wins, but I do think Oklahoma covers.
[01:02:00] We don't know what Ewers is going to be like coming off of the injury.
[01:02:04] And if Arch were to start, you know, Oklahoma's defense has looked very good.
[01:02:10] And while Arch has looked fine, it hasn't been against the greatest competition.
[01:02:16] So I don't know if they would want in that environment, like, that's going to be his,
[01:02:21] Arch would be, that would be Arch's first real welcome to the big leagues kind of game.
[01:02:28] Yep.
[01:02:29] So, uh, give me Texas.
[01:02:32] But I don't think even with all the talent, it's going to be a blowout.
[01:02:36] We said it a bit earlier.
[01:02:37] You never know how these Red River rivalry games are going to go.
[01:02:43] Jesus.
[01:02:45] Um, so give me Texas, but I think Oklahoma makes it a good one.
[01:02:49] All right.
[01:02:50] Um, I agree.
[01:02:52] I think Texas wins this one.
[01:02:54] I could read, I think it is Hawkins still starting quarterback for Oklahoma.
[01:02:58] Um, they still have some injuries, a wide receiver.
[01:03:01] They're expecting three or four wide receivers back within the next few weeks,
[01:03:04] but I don't know that they're going to be at full blown.
[01:03:07] You need to be a full blown for this game.
[01:03:09] I don't think Michael Hawkins is going to be able to put his body on the line and run this game like he did against Auburn.
[01:03:14] So I think Texas just kind of overwhelms them and wins this game.
[01:03:18] All right.
[01:03:19] Next up was, um, I would say sort of a playoff game.
[01:03:22] Number nine, Ole Miss versus number 13, LSU.
[01:03:24] The loser gets a second loss.
[01:03:26] It potentially are out of the playoff picture for now.
[01:03:30] Um, Ole Miss is favored by three and a half.
[01:03:32] This is at LSU.
[01:03:33] It's at night, um, in Death Valley there in Louisiana.
[01:03:38] So Jordan, who do you got?
[01:03:40] Ole Miss or LSU?
[01:03:41] I can't pick Brian Kelly.
[01:03:43] I, no.
[01:03:46] I, I got Ole Miss.
[01:03:47] I think their offense.
[01:03:48] If USC's offense can put up those numbers against LSU, Ole Miss is a better offense.
[01:03:56] Can put up those numbers in all facets of offensive, you know, game planning.
[01:04:03] Jackson Dart is mobile, can throw the ball.
[01:04:06] Just Ole Miss looks like one of the best offenses in college football.
[01:04:12] And I think LSU's defense is just not what we've seen LSU's defense be.
[01:04:18] So give me Ole Miss covering that spread by a touchdown.
[01:04:22] I think they're going to win.
[01:04:24] All right, Jess.
[01:04:25] What do you say, sir?
[01:04:26] Give me Ole Miss.
[01:04:27] I agree with pretty much everything Jordan said.
[01:04:30] Even the Brian Kelly thing.
[01:04:32] Well, I mean, I don't have the bias against Brian Kelly like you guys do.
[01:04:36] But I do think that if USC was able to kind of put up the numbers they were able to,
[01:04:43] Ole Miss is going to be able to do crazy things to that LSU defense.
[01:04:48] So give me Ole Miss.
[01:04:50] I agree.
[01:04:51] I'd take Ole Miss this one.
[01:04:52] I feel like LSU lost some key pieces on defense,
[01:04:55] and they were already not great defensively unless they were able to fix some of it
[01:04:59] on their bye week.
[01:05:01] I just don't see how they're going to win this one.
[01:05:03] Ole Miss will continue to be motivated with their loss to Kentucky.
[01:05:08] I don't think LSU has a defense as good as Kentucky,
[01:05:12] so give me Ole Miss in this one.
[01:05:14] And then the game of the week there in Oregon, number two, Ohio State.
[01:05:19] Number three, Oregon Ducks.
[01:05:22] Ohio State is actually favored by three and a half,
[01:05:25] which is pretty good for being at a road game there.
[01:05:28] So, Jess, what do you got?
[01:05:32] I've got Ohio State.
[01:05:33] Oregon, like Tony has said, has had some issues this year.
[01:05:39] Dylan Gabriel has not been as good as I thought,
[01:05:44] though they've still been able to win.
[01:05:45] They're plenty talented.
[01:05:46] They're still easily one of the best teams in the country.
[01:05:50] But I think Ohio State has just got more pieces.
[01:05:53] I think Ohio State, top to bottom, has the most talent in the country.
[01:05:59] They've got wide receiver, at running back.
[01:06:03] Quarterback is their only kind of question mark.
[01:06:06] They've got defensive studs.
[01:06:09] But I think with the amount of talent around him,
[01:06:13] Ohio State is going to come out and win this one,
[01:06:17] and I think they win this game by a touchdown.
[01:06:20] Jordan?
[01:06:24] I think...
[01:06:26] I got Oregon on this one.
[01:06:28] I think the home game, night home game,
[01:06:31] I'm still not big on Will Howard.
[01:06:33] I just don't think he's that Ohio State quarterback
[01:06:36] that everyone thought he would be.
[01:06:41] And I think this is just going to be a repeat of
[01:06:45] a Big Ten championship game
[01:06:47] where Ohio State wins at that point.
[01:06:51] Just looking at their schedule,
[01:06:53] they're going to play every team that's undefeated
[01:06:55] in the conference.
[01:06:58] So they're going to come back together
[01:07:00] in the Big Ten championship.
[01:07:01] But I got Oregon.
[01:07:02] I think Dylan Gabriel, with where he is in the Heisman voting,
[01:07:07] or Heisman predictions,
[01:07:10] this is going to be one of his Heisman games,
[01:07:11] and he's going to put up the numbers,
[01:07:13] and I think he's going to be able to carry Oregon
[01:07:15] past Ohio State in a close game
[01:07:17] by probably three or a touchdown.
[01:07:22] I hate both these quarterbacks.
[01:07:25] I'm not a big Will Howard fan.
[01:07:26] I don't think he opens up that offense enough.
[01:07:28] I think they just haven't played anybody
[01:07:31] that good to take advantage of it.
[01:07:33] I don't know if Oregon is quite there yet
[01:07:35] to take advantage of it defensively.
[01:07:36] I'd be interested to see that in this game.
[01:07:39] I think you guys knew it at the beginning of the year.
[01:07:41] I'm not a big fan of Dylan Gabriel being a Heisman frontrunner.
[01:07:45] But this is at home.
[01:07:47] Oh, man.
[01:07:49] I kind of want to go Oregon,
[01:07:50] but I want to go Ohio State.
[01:07:51] I just feel like Ohio State is too good on the defensive side.
[01:07:55] I don't think Oregon is quite there where they are at defensively.
[01:07:57] I think it's going to be a little bit of a slog.
[01:08:00] It could be a 17-14 type of game.
[01:08:04] I think a lot of people are probably thinking it's going to be an explosive,
[01:08:08] high-scoring game.
[01:08:09] I think this could be low-scoring.
[01:08:12] I just think Ohio State has too many of the athletes on the receiver end
[01:08:17] to let this game be a loss for them.
[01:08:20] So I'll pick Ohio State to make all my family in Ohio happy.
[01:08:25] There you go.
[01:08:26] Ohio State will win.
[01:08:28] All right, guys.
[01:08:28] Well, with that, we'll be back next week with some more passionate talk about Penn State.
[01:08:34] It wasn't just about Penn State.
[01:08:35] It was just Drew Aller.
[01:08:37] It was mainly about our difference in opinions on Drew Aller.
[01:08:42] See how we did this week.
[01:08:43] It'll either be one of us talking really highly of him
[01:08:46] or we'll continue the conversation about Terrible East.
[01:08:49] So until then, Drew Aller, your family, we hope to see you guys next week.
[01:08:52] Talk to you then.
[01:08:53] Bye.
[01:08:54] Bye.
